Poetry Writing Workshop: Beautiful Death24 June 2014
Tuesday 24 June, 6 - 9 pm
In this workshop with Simon Pomery you will experience the work of interdisciplinary artist Jimmie Durham, examine his visual artworks as well as his poems, and create surprising new juxtapositions of your own. As is traditional with a Pomery-parasol workshop, you will be encouraged to engage with the exhibition, with new poems and new creative, or perhaps destructive, writing practices; you will write by candlelight and halogen and take away something with you that did not previously exist. For this workshop there is the added excitement of an exhibition by someone for whom the boundaries between visual art and poetry are knocked down.
Simon Pomery is a poet and musician based in London. His poems have been published in places including the Times Literary Supplement, The White Review, Edinburgh Review, P.N. Review, and Poetry London. The Stream (tall-lighthouse, 2010) was published to acclaim by the TLS and the late Seamus Heaney, who wrote “This augurs well for the Pomery life and literature”.
Simon was the 2013 Poet-in-Residence at MultiMadeira Festival. His ‘Blood Music E.P.’ was released in June 2013 on Diagonal Records, on transparent red vinyl in gold screen-printed PVC sleeve.
This event is co-hosted by Parasol unit and the drawing shed.
