The London Children's Book Fair at Parasol unit

Friday 16 December: 2–8 pm & Saturday 17 December: 10 am–5 pm

Admission free (donations welcome)

Parasol unit is delighted to present the first edition of The London Children’s Book Fair to celebrate the best of contemporary children’s literature. Featuring some of today’s most innovative and imaginative publishers, authors and illustrators of books for children, this family event will include book signings, workshops and a live drawing session.

Admission to the book fair is free for both children and adults. It will take place at Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art on Friday and Saturday 16–17 December 2016. This showcase of marvellously inspiring children’s books, postcards, bookmarks, tote bags, balloons and limited editions art works, is a perfect opportunity to meet their ingenious creators, have children’s favourite books signed and buy gifts in time for Christmas.

We are thrilled to announce that Marion Deuchars, the much-loved author and illustrator of Art Play and Bob the Artist (Laurence King), will be signing books and running workshops for children. Be inspired by Jon Burgerman, the Brooklyn-based and award-winning doodler who will introduce his new colouring book, Burgerworld (Laurence King). Popular illustrator Alice Bowsher will be present in the gallery, producing a large-scale live drawing in her own quirkily unique style and will create a Photo Booth to take book-inspired selfies. Exciting activities for children will take place throughout the fair: make your own book, listen to stories, colour in wallpaper, and even design and make a football strip for your favourite team!

We have invited primary school children from local schools in Hackney and Islington to attend special literary events, including a presentation with Piers Torday, award-winning author of The Dark WildThe London Children’s Book Fair at Parasol unit is a great opportunity for teachers, parents and children to discover new books, ideas and designs from internationally renowned publishers, authors, illustrators, arts organisations and charities.
